Stars Win Game 5 Against Avalanche, Take 3-1 Series Lead

Dallas Stars Defeat Colorado Avalanche 5-2 in Game 5

Avalanche's Comeback Hopes Dwindling as Series Shifts to Denver

The Dallas Stars have taken a commanding 3-1 lead in their second-round series against the Colorado Avalanche, defeating them 5-2 in Game 5 on Sunday night at American Airlines Center.

The Avalanche, who were coming off a Game 4 overtime loss, started the game strong but couldn't sustain the momentum. The Stars took the lead in the first period on a goal by Jamie Benn and never looked back.

The Stars' lead grew to 3-0 in the second period on goals by Tyler Seguin and Roope Hintz. The Avalanche finally got on the board late in the period on a goal by Nathan MacKinnon, but the Stars responded with a goal by Denis Gurianov early in the third period to restore their three-goal lead.

The Avalanche made a late push, scoring a power-play goal by Valeri Nichushkin with less than five minutes remaining, but it was too little, too late as the Stars held on for the win.

The series now shifts to Denver for Game 6 on Tuesday night. The Avalanche will need to win both games at home to force a Game 7.
